Can’d Aid, which was established in 2013, is an independent and publicly funded 501(c)3 nonprofit. The organization’s mission is to “provide tools and access for under-resourced communities to lead healthy, active, and creative lives.” To this end Can’d Aid has developed a robust Instruments for Change program, which has partnered with a variety of individuals and organizations to provide underserved schools with over 4400 musical instruments nationwide.
March is national Music in Our Schools Month, which has prompted Can’s Aid’s first ever Music Matters Auction. As the nonprofit explains, “Every one of your favorite musicians had to start somewhere, and for many of them, that somewhere was music class. Music in Our Schools Month exists to raise awareness around the importance of music education for all children—and to remind folks that all children should have access to music at school. In fact, research shows that music education is vital for kids’ cognitive development, social-emotional, motor, language and literacy skills.”
The Music Matters Auction is now underway and will continue through March 31. Items include:
•         Banjo Signed by Steve Martin and The Steep Canyon Rangers
