A 17-year-old Chandler High School Student died after they were hit by a vehicle days before, according to the Chandler Police Department.
The teen was hit at about noon April 2 near Arizona Avenue and Detroit Street, just east of the school. Emergency crews took the student to Chandler Regional Medical Center in extremely critical condition, according to the Chandler Fire Department.
On the morning of April 4, Chandler police spokesperson Sonu Wasu said the student died, but she did not specify exactly when. She declined to release additional details, citing an active investigation.
Witnesses told police the student was crossing the street outside a marked crosswalk when a car struck them. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, Wasu said.
It was not immediately clear whether charges will be filed.
The Chandler Unified School District did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
