Alabama's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is doing better than the nation figures according to the 2025 results from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. 65 of the Alabama’s 67 counties saw an increase in their GDP, or the measure of goods and services they produced. 97% of Alabama's counties experienced economic growth with only 73% of the counties nationwide seeing growth.
Alabama saw a 4.3% to 4.7% bump in GDP. That is at or above all but 12 states.
The state benefited from a record-breaking year of industrial recruitment in 2025 which totalled $14.6 billion in new investments. Most of those projects are in the process this year of transitioning from on paper concepts to actual construction and operations.
At the center of the state's GDP prosperity are massive projects in the state's automotive manufacturing industry, aerospace, forestry, pharmaceuticals industry and the burgeoning high speed digital infrastructure.
234 new projects have created almost 10,000 new jobs (construction and permanent), the most recent being the $6 billion investment by Eli Lilly and Company for an advanced manufacturing plant in Huntsville. That is the largest single investment ever in the state.
There has been a total of $69 billion in investments in Alabama since 2017. Despite projections of a 1.8% downturn in the state this year, the trend for growth is not showing any tendency to slow down. Locally, just two days ago Mercedes-Benz announced plans to invest $4 billion at its Tuscaloosa County plant in Vance
"Alabama's economy is riding a wave of historic momentum with signs of success in every corner of our state," Gov. Ivey said in her State of the State Address earlier this year. "Innovative developments, high-quality jobs and transformative investments are ushering in an extraordinary era of prosperity, as new companies move in and existing ones expand."
Ivey has pointed to her emphasis on workforce development as a catalyst for the attraction of new industries and expansion of others.
Every county in West Alabama saw GDP growth except Greene, and Perry counties. All West Alabama counties experienced personal income growth except Greene, Perry and Pickens.
The next estimate of Industries, corporate profits, state GDP, and state personal Income will be made a week from today.
