The FA Cup is the oldest national soccer competition in the world. 12 randomly drawn rounds, eligible for clubs operating down to level 9 of the English football league system, eventually lead to the final staged at Wembley Stadium—the holy grail for most supporters and home of the England national team. The cup is renowned for upsets, glamor ties and fever pitch excitement—with every shock result often attributed to the “magic of the FA Cup”—and the eventual winners earn a place in UEFA’s Europa League.
How well do you know the competition’s recent history? You’ve got three minutes to name the winners of the last 10 editions. Good luck!
Did you get 10/10? If you did, share it with your friends, family and colleagues (if applicable)—can they get them all as quickly as you did?
Some of English soccer’s most successful clubs, unsurprisingly, are the top dogs when it comes to FA Cup triumphs.
There’s no team in competition history more successful than Arsenal, who have lifted the trophy 14 times. That’s one more than Manchester United, who have 13 victories to their name and boast the most appearances in the final at 22.
Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are eight-time winners of the FA Cup, one more than Manchester City and Aston Villa, who first won the competition in 1887.
Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers have six competition wins each, though the latter have not tasted success since 1928.
