From staff reports
PARKERSBURG — Discovery World on Market has introduced a new rotating exhibit corner intended to provide changing, hands-on learning experiences for children and families throughout the year.
The downtown Parkersburg children’s museum announced the addition of the space as part of its ongoing effort to expand interactive educational opportunities. The exhibit corner will feature regularly changing themes focused on science, technology, engineering, art and math, commonly known as STEAM.
Museum officials said the rotating format is intended to ensure each visit offers new activities and concepts for guests to explore.
“Our goal is to keep curiosity alive,” Executive Director Wendy Shriver said in a press release. “This rotating space allows us to introduce new concepts, highlight community partnerships, and create interactive experiences that encourage children to explore, ask questions, and learn through play.”
The first exhibit, titled “Wall of Sound,” focuses on the science of sound and includes interactive components and hands-on activities. The exhibit is sponsored by Audiology Services of West Virginia.
Future exhibits may include engineering challenges, visual art projects and seasonal science themes, according to the museum.
The new space reflects Discovery World’s broader mission to provide accessible, STEAM-based learning experiences for families in the Mid-Ohio Valley. By updating the exhibit regularly, the museum aims to respond to community interests and emerging educational topics.
An official launch event is scheduled for Saturday, April 11, during the museum’s annual birthday celebration for its mascot, Izzy. The event will include special activities and opportunities for visitors to explore the new exhibit corner.
Additional information about the exhibit and upcoming programs is available at the museum’s website, dwonmarket.org.
