During this time of year, gardeners are out in full force. Whether you are planting fruits and vegetables, flowers and plants, or re-doing the lawn—Spring points to growth, new life, and renewal. Spring provides the opportunity to see Port Arthur in the same way!
We are excited as we move to the next phase in several key projects. We are preparing for the grand opening of the City’s new Animal Service Center (April 15, 2026; 11:00 a.m.). This represents a nearly $7M investment in improving the quality of care we offer in this area.
We look forward to the ribbon-cutting for the Woodworth Project, which provides not only a significant improvement to the thoroughfare for motorists but also creates an inviting entryway to our historic and downtown areas. A key action in further jump-starting downtown redevelopment and economic growth.
Port Arthur, Texas announces MARDI GRAS 2027! This exciting action and announcement by our City Council signals the return of a premier festival to the city. Our partnership with the Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) anchors the event in Port Arthur and promises its ongoing and continued growth. Bringing Mardi Gras back to the city represents a concentrated effort by the Mayor, City Council and City staff to respond to the requests of our citizens.
Just like daylight saving time, these accomplishments are further examples of Port Arthur “springing forward.”

The City of Port Arthur, Texas’ annual financial statement, including the auditor’s opinion on the statement, was filed in the City’s Secretary’s Office within 180 days after the last day of the City’s fiscal year in compliance with Section 103.003 of the Texas Local Government Code.

On behalf of the City of Port Arthur, we are pleased to invite you to support the Grand Opening of the City of Port Arthur Animal Services Center, located at 3615 Gates Boulevard, Port Arthur, Texas 77642. The Grand Opening celebration is scheduled for Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., and will mark a significant milestone in the City's ongoing commitment to public safety, animal welfare, and community well-being. The new Animal Services Center represents a major investment in modern, humane, and efficient animal care. The facility will enhance the City's ability to respond to animal-related concerns, promote responsible pet ownership, support adoptions and reunifications, and provide a safe, welcoming environment for residents, staff, volunteers, and visitors.
To help make this event meaningful and memorable, the City is respectfully requesting donations from area businesses to support Grand Opening activities. Contributions will be used for purposes including, but not limited to:
Your support will help us showcase the facility, encourage pet adoption, and celebrate this important community achievement in a way that reflects the pride and generosity of Port Arthur's business community. Businesses that contribute will be acknowledged as community partners during the event and through City Communications, as appropriate. Most importantly, your donation will directly support an initiative that enhances quality of life, promotes humane animal care, and strengthens community engagement.
If you are interested in contributing or would like additional information, please contact Darlene Thomas-Pierre, Code Compliance Manager, at 409-983-8284. Checks may be made payable to City of Port Arthur Animal Services Center, with "Animal Services Center Grand Opening" noted in the memo line.
