Kurt Russell coming to Portland’s Hollywood Theatre for ‘The Thing’ Q&A – Your Oregon News

Hollywood Theatre will host actor Kurt Russell for a special 35mm screening of “The Thing” on Saturday, May 9, followed by a live Q&A.
The event is part of the theater’s yearlong 100th anniversary celebration, highlighting its role as a key film institution in the Pacific Northwest.
Russell, whose career began as a Disney child actor, is known for frequent collaborations with John Carpenter and later work with Quentin Tarantino. He also has ties to Portland, having played during the 1973 inaugural season of the Portland Mavericks, the independent baseball team owned by his father, Bing Russell.
“We’re honored to welcome Kurt Russell to Portland and to share this experience with our audience during the Hollywood Theatre’s 100th year,” Head Film Programmer Dan Halsted said in a statement.
Tickets are priced at $100, with proceeds benefiting the Hollywood Theatre and the The Goldie Hawn Foundation’s MindUP program, which supports youth mental health through mindfulness-based education.
Tickets go on sale to Hollywood Theatre and Movie Madness members on April 2 at noon. If available, remaining tickets will be released to the general public on April 3 at noon.
The Hollywood Theatre, a nonprofit three-screen cinema operating since 1926, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is known for its wide-ranging programming and commitment to film formats including 16mm, 35mm and 70mm. It is operated by Film Forever Northwest, which supports film education, preservation and access in the region.
