Michigan football set to hire Ron Bellamy into front office role – Detroit Free Press

A familiar face is rejoining the Michigan football program in a new role.
Ron Bellamy, the former wide receivers coach under the previous two head coaches, is set to join the front office under new head coach Kyle Whittingham, a person with knowledge of the situation told the Free Press under the condition of anonymity given the deal has not been announced publicly.
Michigan program spokesman Dave Ablauf said Saturday, March 21, “I can’t comment at this time,” in a text message to the Free Press.
There is a “small detail” left to work out in the contract, but the expectation is the announcement will be made in the near future.
Bellamy spent the past five seasons on Michigan’s staff, his first with the safeties (2021) before the next four years leading the wide receivers (2022-25). During his time on staff, two wideouts earned All-Big Ten status: Ronnie Bell (third team, 2021) and Roman Wilson (second team, 2023) who finished top 10 in the nation in touchdown receptions (12).
Bellamy also played a key role in recruiting Andrew Marsh, who is expected to be a star at Michigan after a standout freshman season in 2025.

The move makes sense on a number of fronts. While the wide receiver position was not extremely productive in recent seasons, Bellamy, a former receiver himself at Michigan (1999-2002) was among the most liked and respected coaches in the building both by players and staff.
Additionally, he was the former head coach at West Bloomfield High School for 11 years, playing a key role in turning the Lakers into a power, including his final season, 2020, when he led West Bloomfield to a 41-0 state championship win over Davison at Ford Field. He led West Bloomfield to the playoffs in his final seven seasons at the helm − the program had made just two in its history before he took over.
Now, Bellamy will transition into the Wolverines’ personnel department under new general manager Dave Peloquin, providing another tie to the Midwest for a staff that primarily comes from the West Coast and a familiar face for players who remain in the program.
Michigan cleaned house in its personnel department in February, when it parted with GM Sean Magee, director of player personnel Albert Karschnia, director of on campus recruiting Kayli Johnson and director of recruiting Sam Popper, who told the Free Press he was set to begin a new role as associate GM at San Diego State.
Bellamy appears to be the second move rounding out the staff under Peloquin. The Wolverines reportedly added Skylar Phan, the former director of recruiting strategy at USC at the beginning of March, though the program has not yet announced the hire.
Phan had previous stops at Texas, North Texas and Houston, and an internship with the Las Vegas Raiders.
