The bi-district title is the first for the Tigers since 2024. Bryan Flores, Manuel Rubalcava, Kaleb Alvarez, and Oscar Cortez scored goals for Martin in the playoff win. In recent history, Martin has playoff-opening bi-district titles in 2024, 2023, 2019, 2014, 2013 and 2011.
Martin, in 5A Division II, advances to the area round to take on Lopez, which beat Sharyland 4-2. The last area title for the Tigers came in 2013, when it won four playoff games.
For the Lady Mustangs, the bi-district title comes after a lengthy playoff drought was ended last season. It's been a historic season for Nixon, which entered the playoffs after winning the program's first district championship.
The Lady Mustangs are in 5A Division II and will face Rowe in the area round. Rowe handled Economedes 6-1. Nixon will host the second round at Montes Field. The area game is set for 6 p.m. on March 24.
