CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – The head of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District is calling on the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) to allow Glenville High School’s football team to take the field Friday night.
In a letter, CMSD Chief Executive Officer Dr. Warren Morgan said the district has provided new residency records for the student-athletes currently under review and is cooperating fully with state athletic officials.

On Thursday, the OHSAA removed Glenville High School’s football team from the playoffs, alleging an investigation revealed that Ginn Academy students were inaccurately assigned to Glenville Academy for student participation opportunities.
However, Morgan said the OHSAA removed Glenville from the playoffs prematurely before concluding its inquiry, adding that the action unfairly impacts students and the broader community.
The school district is requesting that the OHSAA permit the scheduled game to proceed while the investigation remains underway.
19 News earlier reported that Ginn Academy is a non-member magnet school that does not offer sports; however, students may participate in athletics at the Cleveland Metropolitan school that is closest to their home.
OHSAA has said Glenville’s first-round opponent, University School, will now advance to the second round on Nov. 6.
The announcement comes about shortly after two Glenville football players were charged with theft after allegedly stealing merchandise from a Dick’s Sporting Goods in Central Ohio.

This is the second time Glenville has been removed from the football playoffs; in 2018, the team was removed for the same violation, fined $5,000 and placed on probation until 2021.
