Parents, teachers and community groups have come together to try to keep children safe when they use artificial intelligence – and they have the backing of one of the world’s biggest AI companies.
OpenAI, maker of the wildly popular ChatGPT, is joining forces with a group calling itself the Parents and Kids Safe AI coalition, saying it wants to help ease fears about kids and artificial intelligence.

“We really want to make sure that the products that we put out into the world are as safe as possible, but we also want to make sure that there’s a standard for the entire AI industry with regards to guardrails and a framework for kids,” OpenAI Global Policy Vice President Ann O’Leary said.
The goal is to ensure there are no ads aimed at kids, to protect kids from violent and sexual content, and to implement parental controls and more, all while juggling privacy concerns, too.
NBC Bay Area’s Scott Budman has more in the video report above.
