Ecuador and Curacao are facing off in Group E today looking for their first win at the 2026 World Cup.
Ecuador's Enner Valencia nearly scored a one-on-one inside three minutes but Eloy Room made a brilliant low save.
The South American side, heavy favourites, have peppered the Curacao goal but ‘keeper Room has kept them out.
62' Ecuador 0-0 Curacao
Enner Valencia tries again on the counter, this time rolling one to the near post. Another save for Eloy Room.
Valencia and the rest of Ecuador will see Room in their nightmares tonight if they fail to score!
61' Ecuador 0-0 Curacao
Oh my, lively on the counter from Curacao!
The box open up on them and Hernan Galindez needs to make three difficult saves to keep this match without a goal.
Phenomenal stuff from Galindez after watching Eloy Room’s excellence in goal at the other end of the pitch!
60' Ecuador 0-0 Curacao
Ecuador continue to pressure Curacao and earn a corner… and Eloy Room makes ANOTHER big save off a Hincapie header!
My oh my. Curacao living dangerously — though they are now on the counter!
Ecuador continue to squander chances.
The longer this continues the smaller the Curacao goal is going to feel for them.
57' Ecuador 0-0 Curacao
Ecuador thought they earned a corner, but it’s quickly reversed for a goal kick.
More frustration for the South American side still looking for their first goal of this World Cup.
Livano Comenencia is then booked. Three yellows for Curacao now.
54' Ecuador 0-0 Curacao
Ecuador on the attack again and earn a free kick from just to the left of the box…
Moises Caicedo takes it, goes to the near post and it’s cleared.
Gonzalo Plata then gets decked by Juninho Bacuna, who earns his side’s second yellow of the day.
Ecuador earn another free kick and it’s flicked on for striker Kevin Rodriguez, who skies it over from an impossible angle.
Rodriguez came on for the booked midfielder Jordy Alcivar at half-time.
50' Ecuador 0-0 Curacao
Make that SEVEN saves for Eloy Room, his latest coming on a tricky low strike from Moises Caicedo beyond the box. But Room read the attempt from the Chelsea man perfectly…
Gonzalo Plata then tries his luck from a similar spot but skies it over the crossbar.
49' Ecuador 0-0 Curacao
We’re back underway from Kansas City.
And there is a funny moment as JP Dellacamera of Fox Sports (a normally brilliant commentator and long the main voice of the Women’s World Cup in the U.S.) mistakenly identifies Kansas City Royals baseball star Salvador Perez as “Rodriguez”.
Perez is Venezuelan, and helped Venezuela win the World Baseball Classic earlier this year.
But he’s in the building with a keen eye on neighbouring South American country Ecuador tonight!
A frustrating first half for Ecuador.
Enner Valencia's miss from inside the Curacao penalty area was the highlight of the first 45 minutes. Eloy Room has been excellent with six saves.
Can he keep it up in the second half?
This is a lovely pennant from Ecuador, featuring embroidery and the national team crest.
It is tradition for the two captains to trade pennants for international matches.
This looked a sore one for Gonzalo Plata of Ecuador, as he went flying through the air when being fouled by Leandro Bacuna.
Bacuna picked up a yellow for this challenge in what has been a pretty physical battle out there so far.
It is a warm one in Kansas City — here’s Livano Comenencia wearing one of the ice cooling jackets that have been in use during this World Cup during the hydration break.
It has been a battle out there with plenty of running.
This one has been… close.
The other descriptor for it might be ‘hard watch’ — more quality would certainly help matters if one team or the other wants to get a win here and stand a chance of making it out of the group.
HT Ecuador 0-0 Curacao
Curacao earn a free kick near the end of first-half stoppage time, but it’s easily handled by Ecuador, and then Moises Caicedo is fouled to end the threat.
The half-time whistle blows soon after.
Another Ecuador-heavy crowd yearning for their side to get a goal…
45+1' Ecuador 0-0 Curacao
Only four minutes of added time, a bit of a surprise when factoring in the hydration break and injury stoppage earlier.
That said, hard to see either of these sides breaking through with a goal before the half-time whistle regardless.
Though Livano Comenencia did just force Hernan Galindez’s first save of the match, albeit with a weak, low strike which never posed any real danger.
44' Ecuador 0-0 Curacao
ANOTHER save by Eloy Room as John Yeboah sent one with some authority from the top of the box.
Room then falls on a weaker touch from Enner Valencia that was going wide.
What a night the Curacao ‘keeper is having…
40' Ecuador 0-0 Curacao
Clumsy from Ecuador as they give the ball away and force Jordy Alcivar into picking up a yellow card.
But Curacao quickly return the favour, and Leandro Bacuna, brother of Juninho, picks up the yellow to slow down the Ecuador counter.
37' Ecuador 0-0 Curacao
Some pressure on Curacao now as Juninho Bacuna comes off the pitch to continue receiving treatment, lowering his side to 10 men.
But Ecuador’s probes cannot find anything promising.
Bacuna has not yet been pulled for an injury substitution, however, so Ecuador are back on the prowl in the attacking third…
35' Ecuador 0-0 Curacao
So far, Curacao are giving Ecuador’s strong backline plenty to think about, but so far, they have been up to the task (if only just).
Four shots, numerous touches in the box, and nothing that has truly tested goalkeeper Hernan Galindez yet.
A bit of stoppage in play, now, as Curacao midfielder Juninho Bacuna gets treated for an injury.
