3:13 p.m. Saturday, June 20: UPDATE: The Medford Police Department says a gunshot death at the Sportsman’s Warehouse in Medford on Saturday was a suicide.
According to a Saturday afternoon Facebook post, one person is dead, and next of kin have been notified.
“At approximately 9:52 a.m. today, Medford Police officers responded to a report of shots fired at Sportsman’s Warehouse.
The first officer arrived on scene at 9:55 a.m., within three minutes of the initial call. Officers secured the area and conducted an investigation,” the post said.
The investigation determined the incident was a suicide, according to the post.
“At no time was there a physical threat to patrons or employees inside the store, and there is no ongoing threat to the public,” police said.
“We recognize that incidents like this can have a profound impact on family members, witnesses, employees, first responders and others in our community,” Medford police Chief Trevor Arnold said in the post. “If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out for help.”
Individuals experiencing emotional distress or a mental health crisis can contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988, the release said.
Police extended their condolences to the individual’s family and loved ones.
Sportsman’s Warehouse will remain closed for the remainder of Saturday and all day Sunday, the post said.
11:15 a.m. Saturday, June 20; UPDATE: Medford city officials confirm there is no threat to the public. Law enforcement remains on scene. Witnesses who were inside the store at the time of the incident report about three dozen customers fled he store while others remained inside, taking cover until law enforcement arrived to clear the scene. A single gunshot was reportedly fired near the gun counter inside the store.

Gunshots were reportedly fired inside Sportsman’s Warehouse in Medford shortly after 10 a.m., Saturday.
Customers were seen fleeing the store, located at 1710 Delta Waters Road. Law enforcement and other emergency responders are currently on scene.
Scanner traffic indicated that a chaplain had been called, but no other information has been released.
