GRAY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Jones County High School is reminding students and parents about updated restrictions on personal electronic devices for the upcoming school year.
According to the school, students will not be permitted to use personal electronic devices during the school day in accordance with Georgia law and Jones County Board of Education policy.
The policy applies to cell phones, smartwatches, earbuds, headphones and other personal electronic devices.
Under the revised student handbook policy, any device that is seen or heard during the school day will be confiscated. Students may retrieve confiscated devices from the front office between 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
The school also states that students who refuse to surrender a device when directed by a staff member will be considered insubordinate and disciplined in accordance with the Jones County Student Code of Conduct.
School officials are encouraging parents who need to contact their child during the school day to do so through the school’s front office.
The policy is based on Georgia law O.C.G.A. § 20-2-324.8 and Jones County Board of Education policy.
