Barren County Nutrition Services celebrates statewide recognition at conference – WNKY

GLASGOW, Ky. — Barren County Schools announced Friday two of its leaders have been recognized with top honors during the annual Kentucky Schools Nutrition Association Conference.
Barren County Schools says the conference is a statewide gathering dedicated to advancing child nutrition, professional development and leadership among alcohol nutrition professionals across Kentucky.
The district says the Kentucky School Nutrition Association aims to provide education, advocacy and leadership to school nutrition professionals while being sure students can access healthy, nutritious meals.
Among this year’s distinguished honorees was CheyAnne Fant, director of Nutrition Services for Barren County Schools, who was named Kentucky School Nutrition Association Director of the Year and will advance on to the National Competition.
According to the district, Fant has dedicated her career to serving students and families through education and nutrition. During her tenure as director of Nutrition Services, Barren County Schools says it transformed its program from operating at a deficit to becoming one of Kentucky’s most innovative and financially sustainable school nutrition programs. Under her leadership, the district says participation in school meal programs has increased significantly while maintaining a strong focus on student wellness, local food procurement and exceptional customer service.
Barren County Nutrition Services now serves thousands of meals daily across eleven cafeterias and has earned national recognition, including being named an America’s Healthiest Schools All-Star. Fant has also championed the district’s nationally recognized Farm-to-School initiative, connecting students with locally grown foods through partnerships with area farmers, school gardens, greenhouses and agricultural education programs.
“This recognition reflects the dedication of our entire Nutrition Services team,” said Fant. “Every meal served is an opportunity to nourish students, build relationships, and create a positive school experience.”
Also receiving statewide recognition was Beth Carder, cafeteria manager at Park City Elementary School, who was named Kentucky School Nutrition Association Manager of the Year and will advance to the National Competition as well.
Carder is known throughout Barren County Schools for her creativity, enthusiasm and genuine care for students, the district says. She has built a cafeteria culture centered on hospitality, connection, and service, ensuring every child feels welcomed and valued. Her innovative spirit, attention to detail and commitment to excellence have made Park City Elementary’s cafeteria a model program.
Whether coordinating special menu promotions, creating engaging dining experiences, or building relationships with students, Carder consistently demonstrates the qualities that define exceptional school nutrition leadership.
“Beth represents the heart of school nutrition,” said Fant. “She serves meals with kindness, creates meaningful connections with students, and inspires those around her through her dedication and creativity.”
Adding to the district’s accomplishments, Angie Riddle, a valued member of the Barren County Nutrition Services team, was elected to serve as the Kentucky School Nutrition Association Manager Co-Chair and will move into the Manager Chair state officer position the following year. In this statewide leadership role, Riddle will help represent school nutrition professionals across Kentucky while supporting the association’s mission of advocacy, professional growth, and program excellence.
