Construction continues to progress on the new Fast & Furious ride coming to Universal Studios Hollywood. We were also able to see the ride being tested firsthand.
During our June 18 visit to Universal Studios Hollywood, we noticed new walls were installed around the track. The walls feature fabric panels that look like trees, obscuring the tracks and construction from view with a more nature-inspired scene.
Along the side of the nearby hill, new tan-colored stone gravel has been installed, smoothing out the landscape.
The green tree walls also partially obscure one of the track’s inversions.
We were also able to see the ride being tested (without human riders). Each ride train is made up of four famous vehicles from the Fast & Furious franchise.
The ride vehicles seemed slower than what is expected for the ride, likely due to the testing.
After going down some curves and disappearing from view, the ride vehicles appeared again to travel on one of the inversions near the escalator platform.
The ride vehicles were then stopped in the middle of the track, also likely due to the testing.
Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will hit a top speed of 72 mph – the fastest coaster at any Universal theme park – while having four inversions along a 4,100-foot-long track. This speed necessitates the use of double-sided lockers for guests to store their loose items, a first for Universal Studios Hollywood.
Earlier this month, Universal apologized for incorrectly publishing that the ride’s opening date would be June 26. Though we still don’t have an official opening date, Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift is certainly close to opening at Universal Studios Hollywood, as Universal has already started testing the attraction with human riders. The first coaster testing with ride vehicles occurred back in March.
Another version of Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift is currently under construction in Universal Studios Florida. It replaces Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, which closed in August 2025.
