For the second year in a row, a South Anchorage girls soccer standout has won Gatorade Alaska Player of the Year honors.
Senior defender Addysen Gasser took home the 2026 award after being a key component to the Wolverines’ 20-0 season that culminated with a state title.
Gasser, a team captain, anchored a stubborn South defense that allowed just three goals all season and posted 17 shutouts.
“As a defender, Addysen’s impact on the game extends well beyond statistics,” her coach, Scott Hickox, told the selection committee.
The 5-foot-8 Gasser was pretty great with the ball as well, bagging eight goals and a career-high 10 assists. She collected a season-high six points against East with two goals and two assists.
“She possesses exceptional technical ability, game intelligence, competitiveness and a work ethic that consistently sets the standard for those around her,” Hickox said.
In 58 career games, Gasser gathered 26 goals and 17 assists. She netted a career-high 16 goals as a sophomore.
Gasser is the second straight South player to win the Gatorade award, joining Lexi Luff from 2025.
Before South’s recent run, four of the previous five winners had come from Dimond.
