Wakefern and ShopRite continue nearly 40-year tradition of support through volunteerism, meals and $150,000 donation
Ewing, NJ (June 5, 2026) – Wakefern Food Corp. and ShopRite are proud to continue their longstanding support of the Special Olympics New Jersey Summer Games, taking place June 5–7 at The College of New Jersey.
More than 300 volunteers — including Wakefern team members, ShopRite associates and their families — will lend their time and energy throughout the event, continuing a nearly 40-year tradition at the games.
Over the course of the weekend, Wakefern and ShopRite will provide 18,000 meals to athletes, families and volunteers. Team members will also distribute snacks and help organize activities and giveaways for athletes and their families to enjoy between competitions.
During the recent ShopRite LPGA powered by Wakefern, ShopRite and Coca-Cola hosted the annual Special Olympics New Jersey Golf Clinic where ShopRite also announced a $150,000 donation to expand opportunities for athletes with Special Olympics New Jersey.
“Our relationship with Special Olympics New Jersey has been incredibly meaningful to our Wakefern and ShopRite family for decades,” said Mike Stigers, president of Wakefern Food Corp. “From cheering on athletes at the Summer Games to supporting year-round programs, it’s inspiring to see the joy, determination and sense of community Special Olympics New Jersey brings to so many. We’re proud to play a small part in helping these athletes shine.”
