Onslow County Schools impacted by cybersecurity crime, officials say – WITN

ONSLOW COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – A cybersecurity crime is under investigation for Onslow County Schools.
According to officials, security of Onslow County Schools’ technology systems was compromised after an IT staff detected a cybersecurity incident affecting the network.
Officials say systems were immediately secured while also notifying law enforcement, state, and federal cybersecurity authorities.
The NC Joint Cybersecurity Task Force, the FBI, the NC State Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Secret Service, and local law enforcement are actively involved in the investigation.
Officials say the investigation remains ongoing while focusing on determining whether any personal data of students or staff was accessed or taken.
Onslow County School officials will contact those whose personal information was affected.
