Special Olympics CT had its opening ceremony on Friday, June 5. Keeping the tradition, law enforcement across the state ran the torch through the state to Southern Connecticut State University. The torch came from Bethel just before 12:30 pm and Bethel Police officers met up with Newtown officers, as well as staff from Garner Correctional Institution, at Dodgingtown Market & Deli.
After restocking ice and water, the Bethel portion of the run was officially over, and the Newtown portion began. Staff members from Garner took turns carrying the torch down Route 302 and into the center of town, where the runners broke for lunch at Blue Colony Diner.
