HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Waikiki Aquarium is celebrating World Ocean Month with a month-long series of events highlighting ocean conservation, marine science and community stewardship.
Throughout June, guests at the aquarium can participate in beach cleanups, educational programs, art exhibitions, family activities and other special events.
The “Youth Ocean Art Exhibition” begins Friday at the aquarium’s Pacific Island Ocean Exploration Center and Capitol Modern, daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., until the end of the month. The exhibit features ocean-inspired artwork by Oahu students, more than 150 from 22 schools, done in partnership with the University of Hawaii Sea Grant College Program.
The exhibit aligns with World Ocean Day celebrations and Hawaii’s 2026 declaration of “Makahiki Kuleana Kahakai: The Year of Our Coastal Kuleana.”
On Saturday, June 6, a community beach cleanup will take place at the Sand Island Boat Ramp in partnership with the Global Preservation Initiative and other community organizations. There will also be educational booths, family-friendly activities and raffle giveaways. Click here to register.
On Monday, June 8, the aquarium will hold educational feedings, hands-on crafts, face paintings, learn about marine conservation and can take part in a “squawkie-talkie” activity with author Benjamin Fairfield, creator of “Kani Ka ‘Opala: How Can Garbage Sing?”
On Saturday, June 27, the Aquarium will host the 10th annual OUTRIGGER Zone Day where attendees can learn about local efforts to protect Hawaii’s oceans.
On Tuesday, June 30, the Neal S. Blaisdell Concert Hall will host a free community event that combines projected animation, storytelling, evocative music and hula to celebrate Hawaii’s ocean environment. Click here to learn more.
