Putin says Africa is becoming a major global force as Russia moves to deepen strategic ties with the continent.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared that Africa is increasingly emerging as a major force in global affairs, reaffirming Moscow’s commitment to strengthening political, economic and strategic ties with countries across the continent.
In a message to African Heads of State and Government to commemorate Africa Day 2026, Putin praised the continent’s growing influence in international diplomacy and its push for a more balanced global order built on equality and mutual respect.
The Russian leader described Africa Day as a symbol of the continent’s triumph over colonialism and a reflection of the enduring struggle of African peoples for freedom, peace, dignity and prosperity.
According to him, African nations have continued to make progress in economic growth, regional cooperation and social development despite mounting global economic pressures and security challenges.
Putin said African countries were increasingly playing important roles in resolving major international issues and promoting stability across their regions.
He also commended the African Union and regional blocs for strengthening continental integration and developing mechanisms to address conflicts and crises across Africa.
The Russian President said Moscow values its “traditionally friendly relations” with African states, stressing that Russia and Africa share a common vision of a fairer international system free from domination, discrimination and external interference.
“We are united by the desire to build a just multipolar world based on genuine equality and the supremacy of international law,” Putin stated.
His comments come amid intensified diplomatic and economic engagement by Russia across Africa as global powers continue competing for influence on the continent.
Putin expressed optimism that the Third Russia-Africa Summit scheduled for October in Moscow would further deepen cooperation in key sectors including trade, energy, security, education, technology and infrastructure development.
“I will be glad to welcome African leaders in Moscow,” he added while extending goodwill wishes to governments and citizens across the continent.
The message is widely viewed as another indication of Russia’s determination to strengthen its strategic footprint in Africa and position itself as a major development and security partner for the continent.
