A 30-year-old Alliance man has been arrested in a child sexual abuse material investigation, thanks in part to specialized forensic software owned by the Alliance Police Department.
On May 2, 2026, the Alliance Police Department responded to a report involving the possession
and viewing of illegal sexual material involving minors. Officers made contact with the
individual, identified as Nicholas Konopnicki, at a residence in Alliance.
During the investigation, the subject made statements indicating repeated access to illegal sexual
material involving minors. He also provided voluntary consent for law enforcement to search and
forensically examine a cellular device believed to contain evidence of criminal activity.
The device was secured and processed by investigators. Based on the investigation and
preliminary forensic review, Konopnicki was arrested and charged with fifteen (15)
counts of Possession or Receipt of Child Sexual Abuse Material under Nebraska Revised Statute
28-1803.
his case underscores the importance of advanced digital forensic capabilities in modern
investigations. The Alliance Police Department utilizes Magnet GrayKey forensic software, a
specialized tool that enables investigators to access and analyze digital evidence that would
otherwise be unavailable.
“These cases require swift action and the best available tools to protect victims and hold
offenders accountable,” said Chief David Leavitt. “Our investment in advanced forensic technology has become essential to identifying offenders and building strong prosecutable cases. It is a critical component of protecting children in our community.”
APD is currently the only agency in western Nebraska with this capability. This technology has
directly strengthened investigations and supported successful prosecutions in CSAM and other
sexual exploitation cases. Without it, many of these offenses would be significantly more
difficult to prove, and offenders would remain free to re-offend.
This remains an active investigation. No further details will be released at this time.
