UT Tyler graduate student recognized for research at regional scholars forum
Tanvir Ahmed of Tyler, a graduate student assistant in civil and construction engineering and management at The University of Texas at Tyler, placed first in the graduate poster category at this year’s Louisiana State University–Shreveport Regional Student Scholars Forum.
Ahmed presented his research on the application of modified sugarcane fibers in pavement engineering under the mentorship of graduate adviser Dr. Mayzan Isied, a UT Tyler assistant professor and the Michael and Elizabeth McNally Endowed Professor in civil engineering.
“Congratulations to Tanvir for earning the Best Graduate Poster Award,” said Isied. “This recognition is a well-deserved reflection of his talent, discipline and research promise. It has been a privilege to mentor him and help guide this work from concept to presentation.”
Ahmed will graduate with a UT Tyler Master of Science in civil engineering this summer. Upon graduation, he plans to continue his education and pursue doctoral studies.
“Watching people realize how this work could benefit them––that appreciation and happiness are what keep students like me going,” Ahmed said of his experience.
Across its four departments and dedicated learning facilities, the UT Tyler College of Engineering prepares students for some of the region’s most in-demand careers. Students may choose to study at the main campus in Tyler or in Houston at the UT Tyler Houston Engineering Center. Visit uttyler.edu to learn more.
