A terrific thrower-jumper in track and field and a star player from boys’ soccer got picked as the WyoPreps Athletes of the Week. Kelly Walsh junior, Lillian Hudson, and Cody junior Gavin Rockey were the winners of our latest honor. Hudson won four field events at two different events last week for the Trojans. Rockey keyed the Broncs to a pair of conference wins with 10 points and helped Cody back to No. 1 in the latest soccer rankings. WyoPreps scrutinized performances from the competition week of April 13 through April 18, 2026, and chose these two student-athletes. Previous weeks are not part of the decision.
Lillian Hudson swept the shot put and discus at the Glenrock Throwers meet. She tossed the shot 36-8.50 and won by nearly one foot. In the discus, Hudson’s best throw was 143-06 and won by over 30 feet. She led the Trojans to the most team points in the event. Lillian followed that with two victories and a top-three finish in another event at the Billing Invite. Hudson won the high jump at 5-6. Her second victory was in the discus, where she set a school record with a toss of 158 feet. Lillian won by nearly 27 feet. She added a third-place effort in the shot put with a toss of 37 feet.
WyoPreps caught up with the field-event specialist to chat about a great week. Hudson evaluated her week of throwing and jumping. She said previous struggles helped her achieve victories in Glenrock, and that aided her in Billings, as well. Lillian described each event she won and what it took to get there, discussed facing some different competition out of state, described what she’s focused on to improve in all three disciplines (discus, shot put, and high jump), and so much more.

Gavin Rockey scored four goals and added two assists in two conference wins in the 3A West. He helped Cody beat No. 5 Mountain View, 3-2, and Lyman, 8-0. Rockey set the tone for the Broncs in their win over the Buffalos. Gavin scored in the first 30 seconds of the match for an early 1-0 lead. Against Lyman, Rockey scored even faster at the start of the second half. How about 13 seconds in? No joke. His effort helped Cody improve to 5-0-1 on the season and 4-0 in conference matches, good for first in the 3A West Division. Rockey has 8 goals and 4 assists for 20 points on the season. The Broncs have also moved back to No. 1 in the latest WyoPreps Coaches and Media 3A Boys’ Soccer Poll.
The nomination said he had a great all-around weekend from the midfield for the Broncs. It stated, ‘his effort and on-the-field impact was outstanding this weekend.’
WyoPreps visited with Gavin about last week. Rockey felt good about how the Broncs played as a team, as well as individually. He said they can’t be satisfied with how they’re playing, described his fast goals, credited his teammates for his success, and said the focus now is on the little things so they can play their best at the end of the season. Gavin also discussed having his dad be the head coach and what that relationship is like, described the dynamics of the Cody team, and a little more.
Congratulations to Lillian and Gavin on being selected as the WyoPreps Athletes of the Week!
